In today’s fast-paced world, finding support and community resources can make a real difference, especially for those managing the challenges of aging. One way Cheer Home Care does this is through regular “Lunch and Learn” events, an opportunity to bring valuable knowledge directly to the San Diego community.

Recently, Cheer Home Care hosted Mickey Burke from Cerebral Motion, which is focused on helping individuals with neurological conditions (headaches, seizures, stroke, ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), dementia (including Alzheimer’s disease), and Parkinson’s disease) improve their quality of life. With years of expertise, Mickey has built a reputation for his work in movement-based therapies, like Rock Steady Boxing, transforming how we approach Parkinson’s care.

Cerebral Motion and Mickey Burke’s Approach

Mickey Burke founded Cerebral Motion to empower people with neurological conditions to reclaim their mobility and confidence. Working with individuals of various ages, Mickey’s sessions focus on controlled movement, balance, and coordination to help clients achieve greater independence.

Mickey’s expertise is in high demand, especially in San Diego, where he offers specialized classes and support for seniors and those with conditions such as Parkinson’s and cerebral palsy. Through science-backed techniques and genuine compassion, Mickey’s methods align perfectly with Cheer Home Care’s mission to uplift and support senior wellness. You can visit his website to learn more about Cerebral Motion and its founder.  When he showed Cheer videos of what his clients were doing, we all were overwhelmingly impressed.

Rock Steady Boxing: A Unique Path to Parkinson’s Care

One of Cerebral Motion’s offerings is Rock Steady Boxing, an innovative program for Parkinson’s patients. Rock Steady Boxing combines non-contact boxing exercises with strength training to improve agility, speed, and physical endurance. Studies have shown that this approach can slow down some Parkinson’s symptoms, offering clients a fun and effective way to stay active.

Under Mickey’s guidance, participants receive sessions encouraging movement, coordination, and confidence (all within a supportive group environment)! For seniors, the social aspect of these classes is as important as the physical benefits. We often have clients wishing they had a class with other seniors to work out within a “real gym” environment. Mickey has two locations and a third on its way. Also, make sure to ask him about his home visits.
