Now Is the Time for Hope and Action
Every year, thousands of San Diegans gather for the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s, the world’s largest event dedicated to raising awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support, and research. The 2025 Walk was no exception; it was a day filled with purpose! With new treatments emerging and conversations about early detection gaining momentum, this year’s Walk reminded us that now is the time for hope and, more importantly, for action.
The Alzheimer’s Association San Diego/Imperial Chapter
The Alzheimer’s Association San Diego/Imperial Chapter plays a vital role in our region, providing essential support services, education, and resources to families and caregivers navigating life with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. Their mission is to lead the way to end Alzheimer’s by accelerating global research, promoting early detection, and ensuring quality care and support. Their vision is simple yet powerful: a world without Alzheimer’s and all other dementias. You can learn more about their programs and services here.
Why Cheer Home Health Care Walked
At Cheer Home Health Care, our commitment to Alzheimer’s awareness goes beyond caregiving; it’s personal, it’s professional, and it’s connected to our community. Our CEO, Brooke Martindale, proudly serves on the Board of Directors for the Alzheimer’s Association San Diego/Imperial Chapter. Through this partnership, we host support groups at our office, connecting family caregivers with education, resources, and emotional support. We also understand how demanding caregiving can be. That’s why we emphasize respite care and self-care, encouraging families to take time to recharge while ensuring their loved ones receive compassionate, professional care. Supporting the Walk to End Alzheimer’s is one more way we give back — raising funds for research, showing up for families, and reflecting our belief that together, we can make a lasting difference.
Moments That Mattered
Our team shared reflections from this year’s event that captured the heart of the day:
“My favorite part was seeing so many colleagues and friends there, all committed to the same cause – a world without Alzheimer’s.”
“The Promise Flower Garden was incredible. Each color represented a different connection to the disease. I chose purple in memory of my grandmother, who had Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. It was a visual reminder of why we were all walking.”
“I met some great people offering new resources — from Reiki therapy and clinical trials to training programs for professionals working with Alzheimer’s clients. It’s inspiring to see how many people are working toward better care and treatment.”
“The weather was sunny and beautiful! I loved seeing the huge turnout — families, communities, and senior living centers like Fredericka Manor and The Vi, all showing up in matching shirts to honor loved ones. It was both touching and motivating.”
Moments like these remind us that the Walk is about connection, remembrance, and hope.
