When it comes to supporting our community, few events bring people together, such as the Parkinson’s Association of San Diego’s Step by Step 5k Walk. This year, Cheer Home Care laced up alongside over 1,300 participants, making it the largest turnout in the event’s 23-year history! Together with families and even a few four-legged companions, we walked to raise Parkinson’s awareness and honor those impacted by this condition, including our clients and caregivers.

Walking for the Ones We Love

1, 2, 3, and go. Walk for those you love! The morning buzzed with hope and solidarity. Our very own Gail walked in honor of her mom, a moment that deeply resonated with many of us. The day began with a warm-up session, setting an upbeat tone. As we walked, we were inspired by team shirts emblazoned with messages of hope, shared stories of resilience, and conversations that reminded us why this cause matters!

The Parkinson’s Association of San Diego: Empowering Lives Every Day

The Parkinson’s Association of San Diego (PASD) is essential in our community. Its mission is to enable those impacted by Parkinson’s disease to live their best lives through support, resources, and education. Through various services, from support groups and educational workshops to exercise programs tailored for individuals with Parkinson’s, PASD provides essential tools that help manage symptoms and improve quality of life.

Supporting Families Through Home Care for Parkinson’s

At Cheer Home Care, we understand the challenges of caring for someone with Parkinson’s. Our Parkinson’s caregiving services are designed to provide comfort, dignity, and improved quality of life at every stage of the journey (for everyone impacted!)

Some Benefits of our Parkinson’s Caregiving Include:

  • Personalized care plans tailored to each client’s needs
  • Assistance with daily activities, from grooming to meal preparation
  • Medication reminders and health monitoring
  • Support with mobility and fall prevention
  • Emotional support and companionship for clients and their families

Recognizing the early signs of Parkinson’s is also crucial. Symptoms may include tremors, stiffness, balance issues, and changes in handwriting or speech. For a complete list of early signs, visit the Parkinson’s Foundation.

What Matters

For many of us at Cheer, the day reminded us of our daily commitment to our clients and families. Gail shared, “Seeing those shirts brought back memories of our clients and their families, and it reminded me how we need to support each other in every way we can.” The event concluded with a celebratory gathering, photo opportunities, and more time for shared stories.

Thank You PASD

Thank you, Parkinson’s Association of San Diego, and all the sponsors who made this fun event possible. We often find ourselves immersed in the daily rhythms of home care, but events like these allow us to step outside and connect as a team. To everyone who walked, supported, or cheered from afar, thank you for helping to make a difference!

Helping You Live Your Best Life

We couldn’t align more with the PASD slogan, “Helping You Live Your Best Life.” PASD shared invaluable resources, including information about specialized physical therapy and exercise classes to improve mobility and overall well-being. These tools are not just beneficial for those living with Parkinson’s but also for caregivers seeking ways to support their loved ones better, discover support groups: PASD Support Groups.
