Cheer Home Care Attends the 33rd Annual ALCA Conference

Cheer Home Care recently attended the 33rd Annual Aging Life Care Association (ALCA) Conference, a multi-day event that brought together professionals in home care, healthcare, and caregiving. The conference was held in beautiful Tucson, Arizona, where the serene surroundings created networking and personal growth opportunities. One of the trip’s highlights was the six-hour road journey shared by our team members (Brooke, Michelle, and Amy), strengthening camaraderie and allowing for bonding before the conference’s busy schedule.

The event was packed with informative sessions designed to address the needs and challenges care managers and caregivers face. A particularly meaningful session was led by Rebecca Montano, who delivered a talk on grief and how to support caregivers emotionally through such experiences. This session was moving as it tackled the often-overlooked emotional toll that caregiving can have and the essential role that support systems play.

Another key topic that resonated with the Cheer Home Care team was a discussion on menopause and its implications for aging clients. The session stressed the importance of understanding medical history, recognizing symptoms, and being equipped to offer adequate support. This subject is relevant as more clients approach later stages in life, where hormonal changes can impact their physical and emotional well-being. Awareness of these issues will help caregivers provide more personalized and empathetic care.

The conference also focused on professional intergenerational relationships. Discussions on building and sustaining these relationships underscored their significance, particularly in in-home care, where age diversity among caregivers and clients is shared. Creating meaningful connections across generations is vital for offering well-rounded and holistic care.

In addition to these sessions, the conference was also a space for personal reflection. Attendees participated in an activity where they wrote down things they wanted to let go of and released them into a fire. This exercise aligned with the conference’s theme of “Renewing the Flame.”

The conference was an educational experience and an opportunity to reconnect with referral partners and colleagues. The peaceful setting and well-structured schedule created an ideal relationship-building atmosphere, essential in the caregiving and home care environment.
